Note: Mr. Robert John Spinks, aged 74 years, and one of the oldest native born South Coast men, died at his residence at Corrimal on Saturday morning. Mr. Robert John Spinks, aged 74 years, and one of the oldest native born South Coast men, died at his residence at Corrimal on Saturday morning. For some considerable time he had been ailing in health, and only on Thursday he had been picking beans in the garden, but taking ill on this occasion he was confined to bed for only two days, when peacefully he passed away. Deceased was born in Fairy Meadow (his father being a native of N.S.W. also), and except for a number of his boyhood years, the whole of his life was spent in the South Coast district. For many years he was partner with the late Mr. J. S. Kirton as contractors at South Bulli. Of kindly disposition, he was well known and respected throughout the district. Mrs. Rosina Spinks, wife of the deceased, is also a native of the Coast, living here the whole of her life, and throughout their married life the couple had never at any time been apart from each other. Mrs. Spinks and the family mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. The family of deceased are well known, Messrs. Arthur Ernest Spinks, Taren Point; Frank Ashly Spinks, Hurstville; Walter Leslie Spinks, Corrimal, and Mrs. Gibson, Corrimal. Deceased was laid to rest at Wollongong C. of E. Cemetery, a short service being held at the residence by the Rev. Setchell, who officiated at the burial, where a large number of friends and relatives witnessed the last rites.
