Address: Billiard Saloon of Bertie Hilton Note: BREACHES OF GAMING ACT, WAGGA, Monday. BREACHES OF GAMING ACT, WAGGA, Monday. The police court was crowded today, when the police magistrate's time was occupied for several hours in dealing with charges against about 20 young men and boys, who were arrested when the police raided the billiard saloon of Bertie Hilton last Friday night week. The magistrate accepted the explanation of several young men, who said that they were in the room to play billiards, and had no part in the gambling, of which they were ignorant. Bert Hilton, who was charged with being the keeper of a common gaming house was fined ÂŁ15, with ÂŁ11/11/ costs, or four months' gaol. The following were fined ÂŁ2 each on a charge of being found on premises used as a common gaming house: Alfred Pulver, James Beaver, Spencer Angel, Fred Robinson, James Mitton, William Ramsay Norman McKInnon, Herbert RIsbey, Phillip O'Dwyer, William Phillips, Joseph Harris James Grainger, and Michael O'Mara. |
