Note: Her daughter Peggy remembers her mother as a very strong women who worked hard to put food on the table for her children during the depression. She also can remember that her mother would ride the family horse around town with a big pale of fresh milk in her left hand, trying to sell it to the local people. Peggy can recall her mother took pride in the family garden and the family itself, and that during the hard years, she could make a meal out of anything and ensure it would be enough for all hungry mouths to feed. Peggy recalls that her mother would try and get cream off the top of the cows milk to put onto the children's bread- she would tell them to 'scrape it on and then scrape it off' to ensure it lasted. Peggy got her first job at the age of 13yrs working with her mother at the local laundry where her mother and older sister washed and ironed for the local people.
